The Stockton Lake area is known for its excellent sailing, fishing, hunting, and other nature-related activities such as hiking trails and dark-sky star gazing. There are also plenty of locally owned, small-town charm diners; see our Stockton Lake Dining Guide. We recently provided a list of 15 Things To Do in Fall around Stockton Lake and a Fall Hunting Guide. And now we have a guide to the treasure troves within an easy drive of Mutton Creek Getaway.

Hammons Black Walnut Gift Emporium, located at 2 Public Square in Stockton, Mo., is top on my list of must-go-to shops in the Stockton Lake area. Not only do they have unique edible and non-edible gifts for both women and men, they serve delicious gourmet coffees and hot drinks for fall and winter as well as salads, wraps, and sandwiches. The history of nationally known Hammons’ walnut operations adorns the walls of the comfortable seating area in the back of the store. Make sure to stock up on bagged walnuts for your baking needs because they’re at bargain prices compared to distributing retailers.
