July 2023 ~
Some creeks and waterways may dry up by July or August, but there’s still plenty of water in the Sac River to cool off this summer. The Sac is great for fishing, swimming, and small watercraft. I recently kayaked the Sac and Stockton Lake.

Making friends
I met up with some ladies through a social media women’s kayak group. I’ve made a lot of friends with similar interests through the years via social media. Proceed with caution and use common sense when meeting up with strangers, of course. In my case, everything worked out great, and we had a pleasant float and conversations.
Easy water access
We launched at the Aldrich public access on Stockton Lake. There’s free parking, a cement boat ramp, and easy access from Highway Mo 123 north.

We proceeded under the highway overpass and paddled toward the mouth of the Sac River.

Our journey took us under an historic railroad trestle.

The Sac is so wide and has such a gentle current that paddling upstream is hardly noticeable.

The river provides plenty of shady spots to dock for a beach-side picnic lunch.

Beach areas allow for opportunities for a swim break.

Several interesting rock formations and caves are part of the scenic float.

See more information about boating, rentals, marinas, and other kayak routes in our Stockton Lake area water guide. The guide gives details about creeks, rivers, marinas, swimming, and other information for enjoying the beautiful waterways of the area.
